Hoodia Weight Loss Supplement

Hoodia is a flowering plant which is similar to the cactus due to its spiny appearance. It can reach as high as one meter and have large flowers, often with fresh color and strong smell. It is typical in the plains and rocky areas of the Namib desert, ranging from Central Namibia to southern Angola and Kalahari Desert of South Africa. It is also known as Bushman’s Hat and Queen of the Namib.

One of its thirteen species, Hoodia gordonii, is famously used as an effective weight loss ingredient. The Sans Bushmen tribes of Africa has long been using the Hoodia to suppress their hunger when they partake on long trips for hunting.

Hoodia is one of the major sources of drugs that cause reduction of body weight.

According to research done by scientists at Brown University, hoodia contains steroidal glycosides that stimulate the nerve cells in the hypothalamus of the brain which regulates blood glucose.

It suppresses the appetite to 2000 calories a day, boosts metabolism, burns fat and enhances the energy. Some have ground and made it as a powder. It is also used with alcohol to make the ingredients concentrated. These form of the plant is either sold in capsules or in liquid form such as syrup or tea.

It is also in the form of a hoodia patch, wherein it is applied through the skin, just like that of a nicotine patch. While some prefer the hoodia patch because it can easily be applied and left behind as the active ingredient of the hoodia are transferred to the bloodstream, some complain that it triggers allergies like skin irritation and itching, although this is only a rare case.

However, solely relying the diet to religious intake of hoodia doesn’t guarantee instant weight loss. Dieters also need to help themselves to achieve their weight loss goals. Remember that the fact that it suppresses the appetite doesn’t mean that it address overeating problems.

Dieters still need to watch their food intake. Hoodia will not build muscles and the only way to build it is through regular exercise. To be able to get the most out of hoodia, one must learn to maintain a good diet and engage in physical activities.
